Yoyo (ヨーヨー Yōyō?) is a playable character in Jet Set Radio Future. He is a member of the GG's.

Overview[]

Appearance[]

Yoyo wears a light blue hoodie (with the hood down) with an orange strap around it that goes diagonally across his chest. He wears a pair of narrow red sunglasses with black lenses and has an angular grin. Compared to his Jet Set Radio counterpart, he is much thinner and taller. He also wears brown cargo pants that appear to be rolled up to the knee and has brown fingerless gloves with blue cuffs. His rollerblades are solid yellow. In addition, he has short, bright green hair that's parted to the left.

JSRF Yoyo Ref

Personality[]

DJ Professor K describes him as "a guy who'll blow your mind with his silver tongue". In the English JSRF manual, Yoyo is described by DJ Professor K as "A newcomer to GG. He loves to tell a lie more than anything else." In the Japanese JSRF manual, he's described as a "self-proclaimed liar" and a "rambunctious hooligan". The official Japanese JSRF website calls him "cocky", while the Jet Set Radio Future Perfect Guidebook calls him a "brat".

Role in Jet Set Radio Future[]

Yoyo is the first playable character, and is the one used during the tutorial at the start of the game trying to join the GG's. He succeeds at doing so after completing the tutorials that Gum gave him. At the start of chapter 3 it is revealed that Yoyo got kidnapped by the Noise Tanks, and a robotic duplicate known as NT-3000 poses as him for some time while the real Yoyo is kept locked up in the Fortified Residential Zone. Once he's rescued, he goes back to being a playable character. DJ Professor K also reveals the reason why Yoyo got kidnapped was due to him trying to track down the Golden Rhinos by himself.

Yoyo hangs out on the top floor of the garage near Pots when not being played as.

Dialogue and noted interactions[]

Dialogue

  • Yo, you know that dude Hayashi from the Rokkaku police force? That guy is one messed up dude. He's a complete psycho. Watch out for him.

  • The Rokkaku-dai Heights are sketchy, man. Yo, be careful when you're over there.

  • Where'd you come from? [Speaking to Rhyth]
Chapter 3
Chapter 7 If the player finds Yoyo before defusing all the bombs.
  • You know, sometimes even I can't tell the difference between me and the real Yoyo. But, what are you standing around for?! The bomb! Hurry!
Chapter 8 After being rescued.
  • Hey, sorry about all that, yo. My bad. But thanks to those fools, I'm all outta shape now. Maybe I'll go out and cause a little havoc to warm up, yo...
  • Anything go down while I was gone? [Speaking to Gum]
  • Man, things sure have gotten busier since I was last here? [When talking to Jazz, Combo, and Cube]

Before confronting Gouji.

  • I've always thought that thing in Shibuya Terminal was nasty lookin' anyway! Let's do a little redecoration.
Chapter 9/Post game All regions.
  • Sometimes, you just gotta get moving or else nothin's gonna get done, yo.

  • I am Lord Yoyo himself! Now greet me! [To the Noise Tanks]
  • Yo, don't go for a walk alone! [To Pots]
  • You actually remind me of several people at once, you know? [To Roboy].
  • I'm the real faker, yo! [To NT-3000]
Noted interactions
  • Combo - When Combo joins the GG's, Yoyo asks if his boombox ever gets in his way.
  • Garam - After being rescued, if Yoyo talks to Garam, he will mention that he caused enough havoc for the both of them during his disappearance. This reveals that the two had history with each other to the point of being good friends.
  • Rhyth - When Rhyth first joins the GG's and talks to Yoyo, he will respond all flustered. Later on, if the player talks him again as her he asks where she came from, showing an interest in her and her background.
  • Pots - During the game, Yoyo is shown to be dancing next to Pots' kennel. Additionally, Pots' intro/victory dance is similar to that of Yoyo's with a small change. In the Japanese exclusive dialogue he tells Pots to not go on walks alone, showing that he possibly handled walking Pots.
  • Roboy - Yoyo tells Roboy that he reminds him of several people in the Japanese exclusive post game dialogue.
  • Rapid 99 - In the Japanese exclusive dialogue, Yoyo questions if Rapid 99 is a bigger liar than him, with him dismissing it by claiming he does not lie that much. This interaction reveals that Rapid 99 has a reputation for lying as well.
  • Noise Tanks - Despite them kidnapping him, if a Noise Tank talks to Yoyo in the Japanese version of the game, he amuses the idea of being called "Lord Yoyo" and commands them to greet him.
  • NT-3000 - Even though NT-3000 is his robot doppelgänger, Yoyo seems to hold no strong feelings towards it. In the Japanese exclusive dialogue, Yoyo claims that he is the "real faker", when NT-3000 speaks to him.
  • Zero Beat - Just like with Corn, Combo, and Garam, Yoyo simply responds to Zero Beat with silence if the robot talks to him.

Trivia[]

  • Although there is no real 'main' character in Jet Set Radio Future, Yoyo seems to be the closest to one, given how he is the first character you play as and the only individual member of the GG's to have a real role in the plot beyond his initial recruitment.
    • Despite this, it's notable that Yoyo is nowhere to be found on any of the box art.
  • When asked about why Yoyo looks skinnier than his JSR counterpart, Ryuta Ueda revealed that Yo-Yo was always skinny, just wore a baggy hoodie.[2]
  • Similar to how Gum taught Beat the basics in Jet Set Radio, Yoyo is taught these same basics by Gum in Jet Set Radio Future, making her appear almost as the 'teacher' of the GG's.
  • With the exception of "Method" and "Rocket" tricks, most of Yoyo's air tricks consist of him spinning.
  • Although he isn't supposed to be reachable in the Fortified Residential Zone until all the red devices in the level have been tagged, he actually has some dialogue if the player reaches him through well-timed jumps while the timer is still going. He says "You know, sometimes, even I can't tell the difference between me and the real Yoyo. But what are you standing around here for? The bomb! Hurry!"
  • Yoyo's name was originally going to be spelt as "Yo-yo" according to one of the prototype builds of Jet Set Radio Future. This was changed later on for unknown reasons.
  • Yoyo's intro/victory dance is shared between NT-3000 and Pots. However, NT-3000's is a direct copy, while Pots has a slight variation.
  • Yoyo and Beat have the same idle dance animation. When Yoyo gets talked to, he does Corn's idle animation from Jet Set Radio.
