Poison Jam[note 1] (ポイズンジャム Poizun Jamu?) is a rival gang in Jet Set Radio. They are horror movie fanatics who rival the GG's, along with two other gangs. Their home turf is Kogane-cho.

Overview[]

Appearance[]

Poison Jam's outfits in Jet Set Radio mimic a Godzilla-style reptilian creature, with its head serving as a mask which covers the head and face, using the mouth as an opening, and appear to be numbered. They further add to their monster theme with scaled gloves fashioned to look like claws. They wear grey coveralls with one strap, and have the legs cut off just below the knee, under which they sport a black t-shirt with the kanji 毒 on the shoulder.

Personality[]

Poison Jam seemingly likes to play pranks on their rivals as they left a bunch of frogs in the GG's garage when they tagged the Noise Tanks home turf first. They are also fans of slasher flicks. After the GG's tag Kogane-cho, they become pissed and seek out revenge. However, despite all of this, Poison Jam will also provide to be useful as they relay information towards the GG's about the Devil's Contract and the mystery behind it. The Jet Grind Radio manual calls them "a twisted bunch of perverts with crazy masks."[1] The Japanese website for Jet Set Radio notes them as being "stupid", while the Sybex guidebook describes the gang as "rough-and-tumble".

Role in Jet Set Radio[]

In Jet Set Radio, Poison Jam runs the Kogane-cho district, spray painting their terrorizing graffiti. The GG's rush in to take the territory. However if the GG's go after Benten-cho first, Poison Jam will fill the GG's headquarters with frogs. The frogs eventually leave on their own as the story progresses. After the No. 540 mission, Poison Jam seeks out revenge against the GG's and tries to claim their turf back via a Tagger's Tag mission, only to fail doing so. After losing the battle, Poison Jam gets kidnapped by black limousine. They are not heard from again until near the end of the game, where their masks are gone, and they are under mind control of the Golden Rhinos. After losing another Tagger's Tag match, they tell the GG's Goji's plan. They are mentioned once more in the epilogue as being back on the streets in full health.

Jet Set Radio website[]

  • A team of horror enthusiasts whose trademarks are half-fish masks. They plan to fill Tokyo with fear. However, they are not very smart, due to their stupidity, they kidnapped a beautiful woman only to find out she was a mannequin, combined with their appearance, it turns into a comedy (of course they are unaware of it). They can communicate with cats, crows, and other stray animals, or can't they?[2]

Jet Grind Radio manual[]

  • These weirdos with horror masks hang out in Kogane-cho. Their trademark is the fishy masks that they wear. They're looking to bury Tokyo-to in fear. They're not the most intelligent of guys. The pretty girl they kidnapped turned out to be a mannequin. Apparently, they can speak to cats and crows.

Jet Grind Radio IGN Guide[]

  • The Poison Jams rule Kogane-Cho the city of the sunset. No one has ever seen the true identity of the Poison Mask gang members. The Poison Masks are the most feared gang in to Tokyo due to their frightening facemasks that are designed to conceal their identity and intimidate the other gang members. They took the idea of the monster masks from cult 1960's Japanese devil monster flicks.
  • To unlock and play as this Poison Jam character you must get Jet Ranking on every single Kogane-Cho Level in the game. The maximum number of cans this cat can carry is 20. The Poison Jam is a strong character with medium graffiti skills.

Jet Grind Radio: Sybex's Official Strategies & Secrets[]

  • The rough-and-tumble members of Poison Jam are always masked to hide their identities. Who are they and what's their connection to the Rokkaku group? No one knows, but maybe you'll be able to find out.
