The Garage (ガレージ Garēji?) is the hideout of the GG's in Jet Set Radio Future.

Official descriptions[]

Jet Set Radio Future website[]

  • A secret base where GG members hang out. Adjacent to Dogenzaka and Shibuya Terminal. Formerly the site of a luxury hotel, the members gathered various junk and turned it into their hideout. The UFO sign is a gift from a certain restaurant.[1]

Jet Set Radio Future manual[]

  • This is the base of the gang GG. The game starts from where you're about to join GG. Here you can run around freely and talk to other members of the GG for various, precious information. With Roboy's Garage Menu, you can change game settings, save the game, and create new graffiti. Come back here once in awhile to gain some hints or practice your skill.

Overview[]

In Jet Set Radio Future, the garage is an abandoned junkyard. It is substantially larger than in the previous game. Here the player can talk to Roboy, who allows the player to pick their character, save their game, change their graffiti, change their background music, do more tutorials, and do Test Runs, as well as the other GG's that join during the story mode. Unlike in Jet Set Radio where the garage was stationary, the player can explore it this time. Allowing them to play around with mechanics like rail grinding, halfpipes, wallrides, and the shuffle. This is where the player begins when they start a new game. The player will play as Yoyo as their starting character, and Gum will show off the basics of the game.

The area has lots of rails, a few halfpipes, some walls and some stairs. It has a couple broken destroyed cars, a punching bag with Gouji's face on it, and a pinball machine. The area also contains a basketball court. From this area the player can go to Dogenzaka Hill, Shibuya Terminal, 99th Street, and Rokkaku-dai Heights.

Besides the opening tutorials, the only significance the garage holds during the story is when Clutch comes by and steals around 40 Graffiti Souls the GG's collected at the start of chapter 7.

Trivia[]

  • During Roboy's training tutorials the garage is also referred to as the "Garage Park".
  • The pinball machine in the Jet Set Radio Future is named DJ Ball. On the side of it the logo for JSRF and the gang's can be seen, although, Rapid 99's early logo is shown instead of their final one.
  • According to the Japanese website for Jet Set Radio Future, the garage used to be the construction site of a high-class hotel, but the GG's collected junk and made it their own hangout. The UFO in the garage was given from a restaurant in a certain place.
    • The UFO may be in reference to the Sega fighting game series Fighting Vipers, where it is the namesake of the UFO Diner, a prominent Armstone City local eatery, and in reference of the local namesake Vipers, who are fighting rebels that challenge local despot mayor B.M. for his reign over the city.
  • In real life, Udagawachō is a neighborhood of Shibuya in its central district, and is known for being a safe haven of rebels and graffiti artists due to its prolific backstreets, as well as a site for underground music stores and parties.
  • In this game, the 12 GG's, as well as Roboy and Pots can be seen in different areas of the garage. However, Pots disappears after unlocking him as a playable character, unlike in Jet Set Radio, where he is shown dancing with the rest of the gang.
  • In both games, the secret characters do not physically appear, rival gangs in Jet Set Radio are represented via their logos on the wall, while Goji has his on a trash can. In this game, there is no equivalent to this.
  • In the December 4, 2001 build of Jet Set Radio Future, GG's unlocked after Beat, such as Rhyth and Combo will skate around the Garage, when not being played as. They skate in predetermined lines and can be hurt by by bumping into them, it is possible to defeat them by bumping into them enough times, but since all the GG's share the same health bar size, this will most likely always result in both the player character and the other being defeated at the same time. It is unknown why this was removed, but a possible reason for its removal could be testers doing this very thing.
